If you have lost all or most of your teeth, you might be thinking about investing in dentures. While modern dentures are more comfortable and functional than ever before, they do have their downsides. Here at Fresh Pond Dental, we often recommend that patients opt for implant dentures in Cambridge instead. These prosthetics are sturdier and longer lasting than their traditional counterparts. Our office is proud to offer start to finish implant denture treatment — contact us today to learn more about how we may be able to rebuild your smile.

What Are Implant Dentures?

Traditional dentures simply rest on top of the gums. Adhesive or natural suction helps them to stay in place. Implant dentures are different. They are anchored in the jawbone via prosthetic tooth roots (dental implants in Cambridge). They are thus incredibly sturdy and provide a strong bite force.

There are a few different types of implant dentures. Depending on your unique situation, we might recommend that you receive one of the following:

Fixed/Permanent Implant Dentures

As their name implies, fixed implant dentures are permanently attached to the implants that support them. They can only be removed by a dental professional. It usually takes 4 – 6 dental implants per arch to support a fixed denture. Many patients enjoy the convenience of always having their teeth in their mouth.

Removable Implant Dentures

Removable implant dentures, sometimes called overdentures or “Snap-On” dentures, are easy for patients to remove on their own. They usually require fewer implants than fixed dentures, which makes them a good option for patients who have lost some bone density in their jaw. Caring for overdentures is similar to caring for traditional dentures.
